FOR A COMPLETE BREAKDOWN OF THE FESTIVAL, INCLUDING FREQUETLY ASKED QUESTIONS, GO TO OUR FESTIVAL PAGE ON OUR WEBSITE.
THE CONTEST HAS BEEN GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT AND IS SET FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 20, 2013.
When is the Mavericks Festival?
The Festival happens at the same time as the contest on January 20, beginning at 8 am.
Does my ticket allow access to the beach and bluffs?
No. The giant waves of Mavericks generate surges that leave the small beach at Mavericks underwater, with no beach to stand on. The nearby bluffs are environmentally sensitive areas that cannot handle the crowds of thousands of people. For public safety, local authorities from San Mateo County Sheriff, California Parks, CHP, San Mateo County Harbor District and other participating agencies will close off all roads to Pillar Point, including access to the beach and bluffs. By purchasing your ticket, you are agreeing and consenting to the rules of the event and that you will not go to the beach or bluffs at Pillar Point.
What time does it start?
The Mavericks Festival starts at 8 a.m. just as the first heat of the contest starts, and wraps up at sunset.
Can I leave and re-enter the Festival?
Where do I park?
Parking is located at the Half Moon Bay Airport. You can plan to come to town for the day and simply park there, or you can buy your package that includes tickets to the festival and parking. Proceeds from the parking benefit the Coastside Boys & Girls Club.
Are the tickets refundable?
No, tickets are non-refundable.
How are the funds used?
Proceeds from ticket sales are used to reimburse law enforcement, emergency personnel and water response teams assisting with the contest. Proceeds from parking benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside.
MORE QUESTIONS? See below.
Can I ride my bike there?
Yes, we will have a free Bike Valet available courtesy of Bike Works of Half Moon Bay.
Is there ADA accessible parking?
Yes, there is ADA accessible parking at the Festival and in the parking lot at the Airport. The CHP and Sheriff will be able to direct you to available parking.
Can my kids attend?
Yes, this is a family-friendly event. Kids under the age of 5 enter for free.
Can I bring my dog?
Due to safety reasons, we cannot allow pets into the festival. Service Animals are an exception to this rule.
Why can’t I go to the beach or bluffs?
During epic swells that are a part of contest day, the small beach known as Mavericks is pretty much under water, and sits beneath towering and dangerous cliffs. And with the giant waves of Mavericks located ½ mile offshore at Pillar Point, it is virtually impossible to see the action on the water. For public safety, local authorities from San Mateo County Sheriff, California Parks, CHP, San Mateo County Harbor District and other participating agencies will close off all roads to Pillar Point, including access to the beach and bluffs.
The nearby bluffs are environmentally sensitive areas that cannot handle the crowds of people on their crumbling cliffs. We want to help protect our fans and our environment, and still give you the best seat in the house. The Festival viewing area will show all the live action on Jumbo screens and give you exclusive commentary from our announcers and the surfers as they finish their heats.
